Teatro is as expensive as it is lovely but the downtown location, impressive design and impeccable service makes this restaurant an ideal choice for impressing any guest.
Calgary is a city that grows and changes as often as its weather but Teatro has been in this location for 15 years. They are open for dinner seven days a week and for lunch Monday to Friday. Please be sure to call ahead, reservations are usually required. Modern Italian Restaurants in CalgaryThe food here is more than the typical pasta and pizza, Teatro uses local farms ensuring fresh lamb and beef and seasonal produce when possible. While the wine list does include a few Canadian wineries, it is mostly filled with French and Italian vineyards. Attention to little details creates a sense of occasion when dining at Teatro making the high priced menu worth it. The zesty bruschetta that appears at the table shortly after arriving is a nice touch as are the delicate macron cookies that accompany the coffee, compliments of the chef. There is an affordable $15.00 bistro lunch menu with five different dishes to choose from. The salmon burger is served with frites and a green salad. It is both plentiful and tasty but the large bun tends to overpower the fish. Historic Buildings and Architecture DowntownTeatro is in a beautifully restored sandstone building built in 1911. Originally the Dominion Bank Building, the tall columns and vaulted ceilings create a sense of refined elegance inside while outside the embellished carvings are true to the neoclassic style. Many of Calgary’s older buildings can be found in this downtown neighbourhood which is great for wandering during the day time.
What to do on Stephen Avenue MallStephan Avenue, (8th Ave.) named for the first president of Canadian Pacific Railway, was designated a historic area in 1992. This pedestrian mall is not only a great shopping district but also the cultural epicentre of the city. Lunchbox and Vertigo Mystery Theatre are located nearby in the base of the Calgary Tower (101 9th Avenue S.W.) and the Glenbow Museum (130 9th Avenue S.E.) is across the street from the restaurant. On cold winter days when walking outside is undesirable visit Devonian Gardens located on the fourth floor of Toronto Dominion Square (317 7th Avenue S.W.) Devonian Gardens is one of the largest indoor gardens in the world and there are more than 20 000 plants growing here. The admission is free but donations are always appreciated. A vacation in Alberta can be more than mountains and outdoor sports. Calgary, like any urban center is overrun with restaurants and neat things to do.
