Wine and food fanatics will enjoy a taste of Calgary's Vin Room. This intimate, chic restaurant offers an immense wine list both by the glass as well as by the bottle.

Housed in the historic Mission Cycle Building, and located on Calgary’s vibrant 4th Street, Vin Room is a multilevel haven for wining and dining. The sumptuous menu compliments the wine list by focusing on both local and national ingredients.

Tasting Canadian and International Wines by the Glass

Vin Room’s claim to fame is their Enomatic Wine System. This advanced technology was created to preserve wine after it is has been opened for more than three weeks and Vin Room has eight of these machines.

This means that the wine list consists of 64 different bottles of wine for tasting by the ounce or the glass and of course by half or full bottles of wine. What makes Vin Room so enticing is the eclectic choices that were made when creating this wine list.

Although some of the wines available are from well know vineyards, half of the fun is in tasting the unknown. A two ounce tasting glass will cost between three and five dollars but the more exclusive vineyards will cost at least double that.

At first it may seem frivolous to pay $13.75 for a few sips of wine but the whole point of Vin Room is having the opportunity to try wines that are unaffordable to most people.

White wine to taste: 2oz.

  • Blue Mountain, Pinot Gris from Okanagan Valley, Canada $4.50
  • Kistler Les Noisetiers, Chardonnay from Sonoma Coast, United States $13.50
  • Alphonse Mellot La Moussière, Sancerre from Loire Valley, France $5.75

Red wine to taste: 2oz.

  • Le Vieux Pin Époque, Merlot from Okanagan Valley, Canada $6.75
  • Pegasus Bay, Pinot Noir from Waipara, New Zealand $6.50
  • Enzo Boglietti, Barbera d’Alba Roscaleto from Piedmont, Italy $7.25

Great Restaurants and Where to Eat in Downtown Calgary

The food at Vin Room excels in presentation and taste. Local farm items are used on the menu whenever possible as well as succulent Alberta beef and unbelievably fresh tasting seafood. Toasted, crispy eggplant chips are ideal to nibble on and the cod cakes seem to melt in the mouth.

Be sure to save a little room for dessert, the Pain Perdu proves that sometimes simple is best. It’s hard to believe that white bread and egg can be that delicious.

Vin Room is the perfect restaurant for wine lovers visiting Calgary, Alberta. The beautiful design and fabulous food are reason enough to eat here but it’s the extensive wine list that makes Vin Room impossible to miss.
