Vertigo Mystery Theatre in the Calgary Tower

See a Show and Things to do Downtown When Visiting Calgary, Alberta

Jul 21, 2009 Allison Anthony

Vertigo Theatre is housed in the base of the Calgary Tower. The economic ticket prices and downtown location make this a perfect end to a day of sightseeing in Alberta.

Calgary has a substantial arts community and many theatre companies to choose from when booking tickets to see a show. Vertigo Mystery Theatre will appeal to fans of the suspense genre and according to regular season subscribers the plays can even be unsettling.

Although Vertigo is a professional theatre company their ticket prices are less than fifty dollars per person. There will always be a mixture of Canadian and International playwrights on the bill and professional, local actors on the stage.

What to do Downtown before Seeing a Show

Within walking distance from Vertigo Theatre and the Calgary Tower is Stephen Avenue (8th Ave. S.W.) The pedestrian friendly mall is lined with shops, cafés and galleries to wander through as well as the Glenbow Museum.

This historic neighbourhood is filled with beautifully restored buildings along side newer and more modern architecture. A local favourite is always the Alberta Hotel Building which was completed in 1889. On the corner of 8th Ave and 1st St. this gorgeous sandstone building is now home to a popular restaurant and an exclusive wine store.

Wine lovers will want to head down into The Cellar to check out the stock and on Friday afternoons from 12:00 to 2:00 there is complimentary wine tasting. Afterwards head upstairs to Murrieta’s for a quick dinner before the show.

Going to see a play at Vertigo Mystery Theatre is an intriguing way to end a day of seeing the sights in the downtown core of Calgary, Alberta.
